Nudibranch

The Tricolor Doris Nudibranch (Felimare cantabrica) is a stunning marine gastropod known for its vivid coloration and intricate patterns. This eye-catching sea slug features a striking combination of deep blue, bold black, and bright yellow or orange markings, serving as a visual warning to predators about its toxic nature. Found primarily in the northeastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean, it thrives in rocky reefs and sponge-rich environments. Like other nudibranchs, it lacks a protective shell, relying instead on chemical defenses derived from its sponge-based diet. Its delicate, feathery gills, positioned on its back, aid in respiration, making it a fascinating subject for underwater photographers and marine enthusiasts alike.
